Lebanon, Tennessee (June 29, 2023) - After a few weeks off from NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series action, G2G Racing was looking to rebound after a less-than-stellar outing at Charlotte.
As the team unloaded and rolled through technical inspection, the team felt optimistic in their truck, as the team had taken a significant step forward in their 1.5-mile program. And with young-gun Memphis Villarreal behind the wheel of the team’s No. 46 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, the team was set for success. In practice, Villarreal ran a fast lap of 31.598 seconds, which was his next-to-last lap of the session. He then brought the truck in, to make adjustments for qualifying and cool down his machine. In qualifying, Villarreal picked up speed, running a fast lap of 31.260 seconds. Picking up almost four tenths of a second from practice. Thankfully, his lap locked him into the evening’s 200-mile race. As the race approached, the team felt they had what it took to get the team back on-track for their growth. The trucks fired and made their way onto the 1.333-mile track. Villarreal settled in, as he sought to achieve another career best finish. The green flag waved, and the race got underway. After two quick cautions, Villarreal found himself in the 25th position, with the opportunity to continue his movement forward. As the green flag, once again, he set out to move his way through the field. He had moved his way up to the 21st position, before lady luck ruined his run. On lap 26, Villarreal came across the radio, reporting he had lost power in his truck. He quickly pulled his truck off the racing surface and brought it to the attention of the team. After the crew had a chance to diagnose the problem, it appeared some of the electrical wires had gone bad, thus ending his race. He was credited with finishing 35th. The team will reload and look to make left and right turns at the Mid Ohio Sports Car Course on July 8th. The racing action will get started at 1:30pm Eastern, with live coverage on Fox Sports 1 and NASCAR SiriusXM Channel 90.
